Books and the Kindle
Back when the Kindle was first introduced, I announced to my husband that I would NEVER EVER own one of those. Never! Why, I would miss the smell, the feel, the weight of a REAL book in my hands. Electronic readers? No way, man!
Those words were a bit bitter when I ate them later. Really, one day I should learn not to make such declarative statements.
Fool count +1, Cherie -1. Sigh.
I love my Kindle. I truly do! It has become as dear to me as my love of reading. I can carry 10 books w/me and they fit in my purse or laptop bag. The last time I flew somewhere and took actual books w/me, I was only able to pack 4 of them. Not a problem except I was gone 14 days and I was short about 10 books. Got a bit bored after I devoured those 4 and was left with nothing else to read.
Not anymore. With my beloved Kindle, I can now read as much and as often as I want without worrying about using up my quota before a trip is over. And even better, I can download new books if I run out or decide something isn’t worth reading. Joy!
I purchased the wifi version, no 3G. The internet is pretty much ubiquitous at this point and everywhere we go, there is a signal. Haven’t regretted not purchasing the 3G version for even 1 moment.
Yes, I still read “real” books. I still love the feel and smell of them. But I have to recommend purchasing a Kindle. It’s light, easy to hold, and super easy to use/read. Best of all, there are loads of freebie books at Amazon so you could probably go years w/out ever having to actually purchase a book. Yay!
